I'm going to start calling David Stephenson "Mr. Syrah." Although his previous releases of this varietal have been noteworthy, his 2003 vintage which is just starting to hit the shelves - is mind-boggling, with an incredible nose of violets with smoky undertones and lush flavors of blackberry, plum and cassis.

The ultra-soft finish suggests dark chocolate and touches of clove. It's available locally at Zephyr Bistro and at Purple Smile Wines, but only 220 cases were produced, so don't delay buying this truly remarkable wine.
